Privacy Policy

Prompto is a Windows desktop app that rewrites the prompt you type before you send it — in any app, including AI chats (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity), your editor, and your terminal. This policy explains exactly what data the app handles and where it goes. Plain language, no surprises.
What happens when you optimize a prompt
When you press the optimize hotkey (default Ctrl+Enter):
- Prompto reads the text in the field you're currently typing in.
- It sends that text to the Prompto backend over HTTPS, with your chosen optimization style, your license key (or the built-in free-tier token), and an anonymous install id used only to count free-tier usage.
- The backend forwards the text to our AI model provider (OpenAI, model GPT-5 nano) to generate the optimized version, and returns it to the app.
- The optimized text is shown to you to review and edit, then placed back in the field when you choose to send it.
Prompto only reads your text at the moment you trigger the hotkey — it does not monitor or log your typing, your conversations, or anything else.
What we collect
- Prompt text you choose to optimize — sent to our backend and to OpenAI solely to produce the optimized prompt. We do not use it to train models and do not retain it beyond what is needed to serve and debug the request.
- An anonymous install id — a random, non-personal identifier generated on your computer to meter free-tier daily usage. It is stored locally, sent only to enforce the free daily optimization limit, and is never linked to your name, email, or used to build a profile of you.
- Your license key (Pro users) — sent with each request to authorize it. Pro subscriptions are processed by our payment provider, Stripe, and your license key is issued based on your active subscription.
- Your settings (style, hotkey, toggles, license key) — stored locally
on your computer in Prompto's app-data folder (
%APPDATA%\Prompto). They never leave your device except the license key, which is sent to authorize your requests.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not use your prompts for advertising or model training.
- We do not read anything other than the text in your active field, and only at the moment you trigger optimization.
- We do not run analytics or tracking inside the app.
Third parties
- OpenAI processes prompt text to generate optimizations (model GPT-5 nano). See openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.
- Stripe processes Pro subscription payments. See stripe.com/privacy.
- Hosting/infrastructure for the backend may process requests in transit.
Your choices
- Turn Prompto off any time from its settings, or quit it from the Windows system tray.
- Uninstall Prompto (Windows Settings → Apps) to delete all locally stored settings and the install id.
